Wrath of the Lich King: The Downfall of WoW?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

In case you haven't heard, best-selling video game World of Warcraft is releasing their sophomore expansion, Wrath of the Lich King sometime this year (hopefully). With the great success of their latest expansion The Burning Crusade, Blizzard sure does have a lot to live up for. Level 80 cap, new land to explore, new skills/talents, new instances/raids, even new hairstyles and dances. With all these new features being added to the game, what could possibly go wrong?

I feel as if Blizzard is never going to update their old instances/raids with their new expansions and/or patches. But hey, why should you care? All the new instances/raids are the rave right now, so why should we do the old ones? That's a great question and I'm here to answer it.

Before the Burning Crusade was released, all the level 60 endgame instances/raids were all the hype. If you wanted to get all the good gear, you had to raid. You had to coordinate with a bunch of other players and spend a lot of hours just to clear a raid. It took both time and effort just to get the great loot.

This is my problem.

With the release of The Burning Crusade, it seems as if everyone has forgotten about all the level 60 instances/raids. I'm talking about Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul, Scholomance, Stratholme, and even Blackrock Depths. No one would dare do the 40-mans and pre-BC 20-mans. Why is this? Why does no one want to do the old instances/raids?

The answer is gear. Simply, gear.

No one wants to do the high end pre-BC instances because the gear from there isn't worth it. Once you hit Outlands, all the gear that you have gotten from Azeroth becomes obsolete. It's a huge gap of obsolete too, which is another reason why people do not do pre-BC instances/raids. A random green from Outlands is far superior than anything you will get from Azeroth.

However, its noted that Outlands is a more difficult land than Azeroth and better gear is required in order to survive.

Which brings me to my next point, what will happen to all the current level 70 endgame instances/raids when Wrath of the Lich King is released? Who knows, perhaps it will swirl down the same hole that the original WoW has been spinning in. Magisters' Terrace, Black Temple, Karazhan (just to name a few), will be out of the picture completely when the new expansion is released.

They will soon join the old fossils of WoW.

Welcome!

Welcome everyone to The Gamers Media! This is a blog dedicated to video games, specifically reviewing and insight into the video game industry. This blog spot is a work in progress since I am a college student and have little free time. However, what free time I have will go to writing on this blog! :)

My first blog post will be about World of Warcraft's future with it's upcoming sophomore expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.
